Yesterday, my husband and I were seriously discussing selling our house. This is something we've know we were going to do since we had our son 4 years ago. Well, last night we checked the mail when we got home. In the mail was a hand addressed envelope from a real estate broker asking my husband if he's ever considered selling his house. She is new to the company and was trying to get familiar with the area a little bit. Do you think this was a sign that we should sell our house?

I do believe in signs, I certainly do!
That said, I would wait, in this case, for another thing or two to fall into place...keep an eye on things, and listen to your intuition, without reading into things too much........you will know when the time is right...you and your husband will not have to ask anyone else for confirmation....
good luck with everything

Let me understand you...

So you have been thinking about selling your house for around four years, and within that time period you receive a (mass) mailer from a broker whose revenue is directly proportional to her client base? (pretty close?)

My question then would be; Do you think that any of the other hundreds of people who received the same mailer would consider it a "sign" as well?

Or even, Would you consider it a "sign" NOT to sell after all of the (past) conversations you had about selling that were NOT followed by such a mailer?

My point is that many people have a hard time understanding probability and coincidence, and that many things, when viewed from a different angle, are NOT so unusual (the classic "Birthday Paradox" is another good example - see link)

I think this is coincidence more than anything. Sounds like you guys live in an area where the real estate market is a little competitive and values are relatively high. No surprise that you were considering selling, or that somebody else has considered representing you.

If you can recognize that any given "sign" has a lot of actual consideration/effort behind it (such as your "sell the house" sign), then you can decide whether or not you want to act on it.

Your bigger decision, it seems to me, is whether you want to leave the sale of your house in the hands of someone who is inexperienced. If you're going to consider hiring her, meet her in person and do a careful evaluation of her qualifications, ambition, experience. This is a business transaction valued perhaps in the 100K's. Don't rip yourselves off.

I believe in signs.

But only you can know if this is truly an answer to your question, a sign meant for you.

Like someone else said, other people probably got the same letter. HOWEVER, if the feeling is strong inside of you that this is a sign that the time is right - you can be confident that it is a sign.

Wow! What a coincidence! However, I would wait for something else to happen before I called it an actual "sign". Regardless of signs, if you and your husband really want to sell, by all means do it.

yes, I think God has a hand in EVERYthing.
Did you pray about it?
