Four years of college, four years of medical school and at least three years as an intern/resident. That is a minimum of 11 years.

At least you get paid while working as an intern and resident.

First you need to learn how to spell the specialty. Generally, unless you are a child genius. 4 yrs undergrad, 4 yrs medical school and anywhere from 4-8 yrs post MD degree depending on the requirements of the specialty. contact a university with medical school and call the registration office. They should be able to either tell you or tell you who to talk to.

4 years college
4 years med school
5 years surgical residency (I believe that is the correct length)

There may be additional requirements before you are board certified.

If there is a Surgical Oncologist in your area, talk with them about how they did it.
