Both are good.
The price will be almost exactly the same for a similar spec machine. Check the details. See if there are any student discounts that make one machine a better deal.
With the Mac plus the price for a copy of Windows you can run both the Mac OS (OS X) and Windows. On the Dell you can not run both. From that point of view the Mac is the safer option in that you can hedge your bets.
More important is to decide how you really are going to use the machine. Is there special requirements (space, memory, applications, screen size)?
As a computer science major you may want to use Linux. In that case you may end up with a second machine that you can load operating systems on and otherwise use differently.
Do you care about iPods or other external devices? If so make sure each one will work with what ever you choose.

Most computer science and business programs use a PC. You should check with the University on what they have and recommend. You can probably also get a student discount. We're an IBM/Lenovo institution and use Thinkpads and Thinkcenters. They work well for us. I really would not go with a Mac unless there is something in the University program that specifically requires Macs. Some universitys also have online courses which may not support a Mac.
For any computer you choose make sure you get a 3 year waranty.

if you are going into computer science/business, i think it would be a good idea to get a macbook. the macbook is more portable than the macbook pro and also cheaper. also if you are going to do computer science, the mac is a unix operating system and you will definitely need to know unix. of course if you get a dell you could install linux/bsd, but it's just nice to have UNIX built into the operating system like in OSX. Plus you could also install windows and pretty much any OS on Mac.

Definitely Macbook Pro. You can run both Mac and Windows on it, and it is going to be running a FAR more modern operating system (OS 10.5) than Windows Vista in about 3 months.

Get an HP or IBM, better hardware for windows.
Mac is by industry standards better hardware, but HP,IBM are realizing this and now make better machines for running windows, linux and server based applications or programs.
Dell is making the fast $ , that is there base, make it cheap, sell it cheap.
They are ok boxes, you get what you pay for.
If you are studying comp science, learn Linux and UNIX now before microsoft ruins it for everybody.

Well, hardware from Dell is generally cheap and rather badly made. Lots of tacky plastic.
MacBooks are well designed - even on the inside. I find them much more of a pleasure to use.

I don't know about about MAC, but my brother sure loves them!
As for Dull Computer, NEVER did like 'em. Never did. Even when they first came out years ago with the Big Three, Gateway, Northgate and Dull Computers.
I NEVER did like Dull Computers, I don't know why, just never liked them!
