Good day. If u are speaking of an external hard drive. Yes but if is an internal hard drive like u wanna format and reinstall windows, u dont need a driver. The computer automatically recognizes it in the Bios. If is a new hard drive, make sure u have the correct settings in the bis otherwise the comp will not recognize it. Also check the jumpers. Laterz!

Generally Windows will install a generic driver. Some hard disks come with special drivers and tools for additional features. It is that portion you would have to reinstall.
Now if the drive is attached to a SCSI or RAID card or system you may have to load those drivers during setup.

Yes you will have to re-install all the drivers, such as the sound, printer, mouse, keybord, display driver. So before you "format" the HD, make sure you have, and know how to install them.
