The 3 branches are the legislative, the judicial and the executive.
The legislative is the Senate and Congress. Together they make the laws that we live by.
The Judicial is the Supreme Court and they enforce the laws that are passed by Congress.
The Judicial branch is the President and he initiates programs and serves as a counterbalance to the other two branches.
Individually, the branches have only limited power and each has the ability to counter the other two. Our system was established this way to keep any one branch of the government from having too much power.
