It seems walmart is deliberatly trying to put themselves out of business. They are losing customers left and right. They lost me with layaway... now fabrics, it's a done deal. I will not be shopping walmart if they do that!

I have a JoAnn fabrics store near me but Wal*Marts fabric is so much cheaper and it used to have a great selection of the kids prints which I used a lot with my daughter. I am very upset about this! Our store in Binghamton has already downsized and is moving the craft stuff into the fabrics section.
Since you don't have anywhere else to shop near you, I would really recommend e-bay. Sounds crazy to get fabric on there but you can find anything in the world and there are great pictures and people are usually helpful. I found a large print dora design that i'd never seen before and I made a highchair cover out of it from e-bay.

Yes, Walmart is getting out of the fabric business and not even given loyal customers a chance to stock up so we can finish projects.
I heard that they want to be a complete "self service " store
without any associates that can answer any questions anywhere in the store.
I found this website about calling 1 800 walmart to complain.
http://savewalmartfabricdept.freewebspace.com/
I have called and will continue to call - its a free call - and they have annoyed me by removing the fabric department so I will be annoying them. LOL. It works for TV shows.

They are doing the same thing here in Kentucky. Building all of these new Wal-Mart Super Centers and then not selling fabric anymore, nor are they selling guns, but that's beside the point. However, a clerk here told me to voice my concern/complaint and call 1-800-Walmart; and that's exactly what I did!

I hope that is an isolated trend! But there are a zillion places online to order fabric; Google it and see! Try these: www.fabric.com or www.fabricdepot.com. Also try a narrowed search with the word fabric and what you are doing with it, like quilting.

I live in New Mexico and I heard that they were going to stop selling their $1-a-yard fabric.

I hope they don't do the same in Maryland. The JoAnn's in my area just closed. I'm going to be up the creek.
