Best thing to do at home is to use a little dish soap in warm water and a very soft toothbrush, that'll work for rings and chains. For pearls, just wipe with a clean soft cloth. Also you can wear your rings when washing your hair. Do not clean any type of jewelry with toothpaste, if you don't get all the toothpaste off it will get hard like cement and then you'll have to take it to a jeweler to get it out. You should take your rings with stones to a jeweler twice a year or at least once a year, so they can clean them and check them for loose stones, worn prongs, etc.

Mr. Clean and an old toothbrush. Just do not use it on opals or pearls.
