There are probably several reasons that people havent taken down there Christmas tree and lights but the best one I can think of is Pure laziness. They get all excited to put them up but dread taking them down. I know one persons home that has their lights up year round and keeps them on all year. I think they use them for porch lights.

If I knew I would tell you. LOL. I just took my Christmas tree down. No real reason for the delay. I know it's over...but sometimes people can't explain why they do the things they do. And then sometimes it can be laziness, or being too busy, or have sentimental value. I don't know! That's why the study of psychology is so vast and complex. But your question is funny by reason that we tend to ask that same question every year, with no resolution.

I say when New Year's comes, it's time to take that stuff down. Enough already.
But I think people just get busy and they don't get around to it. Couple that with the fact that many people get really depressed around the holidays because they've been with family members who they do not like. They think they're supposed to be happy and they're not and then they get even more depressed. Once you're depressed then you don't have the motivation to get those Christmas decorations put away.
Or maybe it's because Christmas wasn't what they wanted it to be? Does taking down the decorations symbolize giving in and admitting that Christmas is over and it didn't go as planned (or fantasized)?
Some ideas for you anyway...

In January it is cold, and gloomy out. With christmas trees up, it looks much prettier and more able to enjoy. Plus, who has time to actually enjoy Christmas decorations around the holiday anyway? People are always busy, busy busy! Now that the holidays are over, there is more time to be able to sit, and relax, and enjoy looking out into the frosted cold.

Chrismas in the Cahtolic church and the Easten Rite ends with
the octive of Christmas the day afterEpiphany (LITTLE CHRISTMAS) with the Baptism of the Lord. I don't know of any celebrations anywhere beyond this.

Because it's cold outside to take them down.
The true question is why are they still turning them ON when it is almost February?

My, my, didn't we get up on the wrong side of the Grinch today. People still have Christmas lights and trees because they enjoy them.

I can explain the Christmas lights on people's houses: it's too cold to go up on a ladder and take them down, so you leave them up until the spring thaw. The advantage of that is you have your Easter lights already up!

my lights and other decorations only go up days before christmas ....... and my tree goes up christmas eve after we all decide which one we want, we put a select few ornaments all made over the years and just before christmas (saved in a special box to be opened) on it, then santa clause comes and decorates it and what a sight to see in the morning...all decorated and lit up pretty in the morning with all the presents under it ...LOLOL...so we enjoy them until the end of january and then they come down :o)
don't know what will happen when santa clause gets outgrown :o(

They're probably just like me, too worn out to even think about
taking any of it down. I'm honestly thinking about leaving it up,
next Christmas will probably be here before you know it!!!
