whats the best way to clean shoes with out buying anything?

My son uses a tiny bit of windex and a toothbrush around the soles and sides, he uses a wet cloth and a bit of windex on the tops, he is a neat freak. Its amazing how long his shoes last, and look good. If they are material they make special cleaners for those, visit a shoe store for that.

tennis shoes..throw em in te washer..dress shoes..warm water and a rag
