The luck of history. The Brits were the first to go through the Industrial Revolution, and we inherited it. America is a large open country, so we multiplied into a very large population. The two things that determine the power of a nation are their average wealth and their population. There are 300 million people in the US. Compare that to other wealthy nations: Canada has 33 million, the UK, France, and Italy have around 60 million, Japan has under 120 million, Germany has over 80 million.

Because no matter what hte resyt of the world thinks of us we still do what we want when we want and how we want.

And seriously who do ALL the other nations of the world call when they need help. the good old USofA!! and no matter what ally or enemy when it comes to disasters or military threats we are always there.

Pure aggression and the will to destroy others to further "American interests"....
"American interests" can mean anything from the quite reasonable protection of its citizens to simply putting American financial interests (Oil etc.) above the well-being of foreign peoples...
