Please don't write get Diablo 2 like some stupid genuine genuis. I know it's awesome but I at the current time only have Diablo 1.

Yes. It's free to play online. Not sure if battle.net still has the server, but if it does, it's free.

Yes, You can play Diablo 1 online for free. Blizzard has the battle.net server system. But last I looked no one was on playing diablo 1.
You can always play it online as a single user. It supported hosting a game locally and allowing up to 4 players to join the game. Good luck.
By the way I still play that game too as it is fun as a solo mission game.

The online play is free but the game itself in not free. There is a free Demo vesion but it does not allow on-line play. You can pick up Diablo pretty cheap on eBay ($5). The CD is a hybrid and will play on either PC or Macintosh. Make sure you get a game with the case. The ID number is on the case and is required for on-line play. There are bunches of pirated ID numbers but Blizzard (the maker of Diablo) are REALLY good at watching these and blocking these numbers from on-line play.
