The difficulty of Sudokus vary greatly on the puzzle. They can be very easy or brutally hard. For tips on how to solve them, surf about the Intermet a bit - there are plenty of sites that describe the basic strategies. There are even some sites with Sudoku solvers that walk through the solution of any puzzle you submit.

Um, I have to respond to some of the comments that follow about how all Sudokus can be solved in 5 minutes or so if you know what you're doing. Trust me, they can get hard. I mean really, really hard. Until you've seen a Sudoku where the only way to make progress is by finding a jellyfish or an XYZ-wing, you don't know what hard is.
If you want to see examples of hard Sudokus, you should find the following Web page very interesting. It has a large number of hard Sudokus that require advanced techniques to solve, and it's fair to say all of them are much harder than the "hard" puzzles in your newspaper. I also highly recommend the "Sudoku Explainer" (a free download, links to it are on the Web page) so you can see how the solver cracks some of these hard puzzles. If you aren't familiar with how rich the solving techniques are for Sudoku puzzles, you will be quite impressed.

It's really all logic, kind of like a numerical jigsaw puzzle. Start with 9-box squares with the most numbers, but try to remember and apply the horizontal and vertical rules as well. Usually when I get stuck, I'd pencil in tiny numbers that are possible answers in the box and work my way from there. Chances are you'll have one or two boxes with only one possible answer. Put that one in, and you can cancel that number from the horizontal, vertical and 9-box square lists. If you're a beginner, there are lots of websites to teach you the basic rules and give simple sets for you to try. Later on you'll become better through experience and may even develop a few handy tips yourself. You can time yourself for the added challenge, but it's best not to try too hard or your brain just might not see the connections.
Here's a cool fact: computers don't actually have the capacity to solve sudoku! Not without numerous logic levels that is. Kind of makes you feel good about your brain now, doesn't it? :-) So try it out and good luck!

I accept as true with "Cogito..." If we evaluate a "sudoku" puzzle to have precisely one answer, then any puzzle would be solvable... yet "with out guessing" is yet another rely. you need to assert which you're "guessing" for each get right of entry to which you're making! in simple terms think of a few 3x3 cellular that has each thing crammed in however the 7 (so for sure "7" is the lacking get right of entry to"). you need to guess that 6 is going there, yet then you definately understand that there is already a "6" interior the encircling 3x3, maximum well known you to a contradiction. ultimately you exhaust all the different thoughts and end that "7" belongs interior the empty sq.. of path, our brains artwork lots greater rapidly than this, and we start to make shortcuts and team proper information at the same time, yet this would not contradiction my advice that we are finally working from a *technique of removing* the whole time. so as others have suggested, if we can purely "logically" (as a result, perhaps we define that to characterize by using evaluation of rows/columns/3x3 cells) shrink the possibilities to 2 or greater, we can nonetheless assume a definite answer and artwork till we attain a contradiction. i might actually ought to make a photocopy of the puzzle at each "fork interior the line" - that should finally effect in me having like 2^one hundred photocopies... yet ultimately i might get it!

I think sudoku is hard...you have to be able to think about your moves before you make them and how one move will affect the others.

it depends on which ones u do. I have showed many ppl how to play but u would never guess that i have never solved a puzzle. u need to have numbers 1-9 horizontally and verticle as well as 1-9 in each box, with each number only once

No, it's much easier. just use logic. Think whether a given cell can be a certain number with all the conditions the cell is under

First of all, start with a children's book. This way you get easy puzzles and work your way up to more difficult skill levels.
