I've had my ipod video for a while, and was told by a friend that you're only supposed to run with it for 15 minutes (which isnt even a warmup for me). So basically im a distance runner, and the other day i ran 7 miles with it, but i didnt notice anything wrong with it (of course i had the music way up so i wouldnt notice any strange noises coming from it.

If it is bad, what can i do to minimize the affects of running with it? thanks

The iPod Video Models (and all models other than the Shuffle and Nano) have traditional hard drives, which could skip.

iPod FAQs: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60920#faq2b

Question: Can I use iPod while running, or doing other activities? Will my music skip?
Answer: iPod was designed for people with an active lifestyle. It is compact and lightweight enough to take with you wherever you go. It was designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand or to be slipped into a pocket or purse for easy transport. iPod offers up to 20 minutes of skip protection &emdash; twice that of other hard drive &emdash; based MP3 players on the market - so you can enjoy outdoor athletic activities without missing a beat. Also check out the skip-free iPod shuffle and iPod nano.

Question: How does iPod provide skip protection?
Answer: In addition to the hard drive, iPod has a memory cache. It is made up of solid-state memory, meaning that it has no mechanical or moving parts, so it is not affected by movement of the device. iPod skip protection works by preloading up to 25 minutes of music to the cache at a time. iPod plays music from the memory cache rather than the hard drive, so even rigorous activities won't cause music to skip.

No, it will not hurt the video to run with it. And ive never herd of "oh you can only run with it for 15mintues, and then it will mess up." But no it wont hurt it as long as you don't drop it or anything becuase there is a harddrive that could break if it's slammed on the street or somthing. Harddrive is really sturdy so dont worry. But ive ran, jumped on trapoline, rode dirtbike, and even danced fast with mine and its still running in top condition and never skipped or anything. Don't let the nano dudes tell you wrong.

no longer in user-friendly words is it strong, yet attempt subscribing to a podcast noted as podrunner that is spectacular!!! I run w/ a video iPod also, no issues right here notwithstanding the nano is a extra effective decision for operating

look, it has a hard drive. it is really clever about shutting it down quickly but it still has a hard drive.

Running with it will eventually shock the hard drive to death.

Get an ipod nano for running, or some other flash-based MP3 player.
