A tough question. As a white male, I often find myself embarrassed by the continued presence of bigotry in our society. There has been a lot of progress in many respects in the past few decades--but we still have a long way to go.

But it's really two questions. Have we as a society grown enough to elect a woman? Or a black pperson? In the first case, I think so--though that's no guarantee in any particulaar election. I'm less confident Americans are willing to electa black president. One thing is clear--the racist hate campaign has already started--you can see it on the Internet. I'm saddened that no one of our leaders--of either party--has evenacknowledged this as yet. That doesn't auger well for the outcome. I will make one predicction: when and if Baruk Obama emerges as the leading presidential candidate, you will see the neo-con right unleash a campaign of racial hatred unlike anything we've seen since the Selma march. And maybe we need that--too many otherwise decent whites have allowed themselves to beleive racism is dead or dying. But the truth is, though it is weaker than in the past, it is still very much with us.

If a short election cycle were to take place right now a woman or a black man could easily be elected -- but we still have a long way to go. I do believe that Obama has a good chance to get his parties nomination and if so will likely win. But there are a lot of things that need to play out first.

Yes a big challenge for American only because we define people outwardly instead of inwardly. When is America going to grow up? Wake up America" the only relevant difference between candidates should be issues, policies and ideas, and not how we look, who we sleep with nor our gender!!!!

Depends on the woman's or black person's policies and points of view. But yes, it is time.

No. The country is too racist and sexist. Just look at the Senate and Congress.
