PRO:
Small, cheap, can keep in a cage so it won't run around the house and freak people out, cute, you don't have to wash them/groom them like you have to for dogs, won't bark or claw your face (well, not too much for the latter)

CON:
You can't get much cuddly with them, you see...and if you have a mother/sister who hates rodents then that's a problem. They might make small sounds at night but if you are going to keep them in your room you won't be bothering other family members.

I hope things work out!

The good things are they are inexpensive, don't take up much space, and you don't need to give them baths. the bad thing is when you have to clean the cage once a week and it gets a little messy. But other than that hamsters are great pets. I should know, I have one! Good luck convincing your dad!

hey that's exactly wat i'm tyring to do to with a guinea pig tho anyways i had a hamster and i know what its like so here are the pros:
easy to keep, inexspensive, cuddly and cute!

cons:
have to clean cage every week, not too social/sometimes bite, nocternal.

If this is your first rodent i suggest you get a guinea pig there the best for first timers.'
anyways hope you can convince your dad to let you get one have fun!1 and good luck!

Pros:

Cute cuddly, inexpensive to keep, entertaining.

Cons:

Nocturnal, so very active at night and will keep you up if in your bedroom; must keep cage very clean or they get smelly, they don't live very long 2-3 years. Can't keep a male and female together or you'll have lots of babies. You'll have to keep it away from any dogs or cats in the household or they'll end up as lunch.

when I was convincin my parents to get me a hamster, I looked up all of the facts on the internet and typed a paper all about hamsters. Also, you could try a gerbill they are almost exactly like hamsters.

pros: very cute, fuzzy, soft, playful, & loving.
