we have noticed around some of the skirting boards in our house there is sometimes small piles of what looks like dirt. we thought the wood was rotting. i have noticed small black ants seem to come out of all these areas but i don't know if they would cause the problem.

if all you see is black ants, they're probably carpenter ants. if you find white ants, you've found termites. either way if your noticing what looks like wood rot than you have a serious problem that needs attention. call an exterminator.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
