Thriller/Horror -- The Silence of the Lambs

Comedy - Crimewave (a very strange comedy homage to slasher movies and Alfred Hitchcock. The first movie by the Cohen brothers who went on to do "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou" and lots of others)

Comedy styles vary, so it's still a matter of taste.
Some of the old Mel Brooks movies are hysterically funny,
"History of the World, Part 1", "Blazing Saddles", the original "The Producers" to name a few. "My Blue Heaven" with Steve Martin is wonderfully funny, and 'My Cousin Vinny" with Joe Pesci is really good. There are lots of really good ones out there.
I'm a wimp and don't watch horror movies, so can't help you there,
If you've never seen "The Usual Suspects" with Kevin Spacy, you might want to try it. It's pretty violent, but it really keeps you on your toes and has a twist at the end that will absolutely knock your socks off. I also recently saw a movie called "The Boondock Saints" which is not the sort of thing I'd have picked out, but really left an impression. Again, it's violent, which is usually not my sort of film, but caught my attention and was impressive.
Good luck with your movie-watching. Seeing a good film helps to make up for the waste of time watching those that aren't.
P.S. Saw "Dream Girls" at the theater yesterday. It's well worth the money and time.

Recently I have seen JackAss II, The Descent, The Devil Wears Prada and Night Listener.

I would recommend Night Listener (Thriller)

JackAss II (Comedy)

Then the other's.

Have Fun!
