It's called cropaphagy, and it actually both natural and healthy for hampsters, although NOT dogs, as earlier stated. Dog's may do it as a sign of deficiency, but not under normal circumstances.Hampster poop contains partially-digested food that can be further digested the second time around, as gross as it sounds. Kind of like a cow chewing it's cud... It's natural, don't worry.

I may be to do with a vitamin problem, but I have also read they do that because the is undigested food in the poop. If it is a vitamin problem you can go to the local pet store and buy mineral, vitamin blocks that they chew on or they will also have drops you can add to the water.

Thats true. Dogs were first domesticated when humans would keep them near their camps to eat the feces and keep it cleaner.
I know its gross, but its natural for dogs, rabbits and hamsters to eat their poop. Its because vitamins and nutrients do not get fully absorbed the first time around so they eat their poop to get ALL the nutrients out of their food.
Dont let it freak you out, this is nautural to hamsters.

yes, hamsters and gerbils eat their poop, it's a source of vitamin B, it's not really a bad thing, my gerbils do it, but if it kinda creeps you out, lol, you could buy it vitamin wheels or something
