defragment your disk
buy more memory
buy a video card that has it's own memory, since most computers nowadays use SYSTEM memory to run the video card.
Lower the video settings. The better the quality of your picture on the screen, the more it uses up system resources.
when it starts up, end all those "little" programs like messenger that automatically start up.
If you don't use your cd-rom drive much, reduce it's "cache size". this will slow down your CD-rom a lot, but speed everything else up a little
one GOOD but "expert" way is this...set your virtual memory to ZERO, restart in safe mode then defragment your disk, then set your virtual memory to the same maximum and minimum, like "10 gigabytes"...make sure it's at least 100 megabytes if it's a newer computer. Then restart again. This makes sure your virtual (hard disk) memory is faster, because it is defragmented and it is on the fastest part of your hard drive.
To those who say a new hard drive won't help...sorry, you are wrong. a faster hard drive with lower seek time will definitely speed up a computer, since most programs use the hard drive for "virtual memory" also known as a "page file"...and while a LARGER hard drive won't help, one that finds the information faster (seek time) will. The faster a drive finds what it's looking for, the quicker it can start doing what you're trying to do.
In fact, if you have two hard drives...one that's small but really fast for your operating system and virtual memory and one that is larger for everything else (programs) you'll see a nice gain in speed. Even more if you use at least one SCSI drive, since those don't use nearly as much CPU and RAM to operate the hard drive as IDE style drives.

Here is a rundown of things that you can try.
- Check Disk (run after restart)
- Disk Cleanup
- DEFRAG
- SpyBot Search & Destroy
- Anti-virus Scan
- use MSCONFIG at RUN from the Start menu. TURN OFF everything but your Anti-virus in the STARTUP section.
A new hard drive would not help. More RAM might. If you have Windows XP, you should have 512MB. Visit http://www.coastmemory.com and look up your system.
But YES, a new computer might help too. Buy just a TOWER from Staples for $399. At that price, it comes with 512MB of RAM, large Hard Drive, CD Burner and probably more speed than your old rig. Consider the fact that 512MB of RAM might cost $100, this is an excellent deal.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

well you should really buy RAM, the higher the memory the better. and if you can get two that are the same, so it works better. You could upgrade your PC for a higher CPU speed. I would recommend 3 Ghz+. You can also stop other processes on the background...for example if you are playing a video on media player then close it to get faster speed. Look at the bottom right corner of your screen, if you see too many programs running that you dont need right-click and close them. I dont think ad-aware has an effect, maybe a minor effect.

it all depends on part of your pc to run faster. if its in general try upgrading hardware. get some more "ram", a new video card, a new well a lot of new things might speed up your pc. but most importantly DO NOT OVERCLOCK IT unless you have some hell of a super cpu fan and heat sink. but if it the inter net you want faster try upgradeing to high speed internet. or google "cablenut" cablenut is a program that customises your internet modem and its connection thus speeds it up a touch. but there is a million things you could do.

A bigger or newer hard drive will not make the PC faster
what will is
A faster processor, more memory, fewer applications running, fewer services running
in that order...
Hope this helps

You don't give too much info to really answer this...What type of system do you have ?? how much RAM etc...what OS are you using ??
on ANY system...the single most important speed up is more ram...you can defrag your system...keep the system clean of unimportant file...(such as .TMP files) stop unused applications from starting up on windows boot-up. Need more info.
on any system...the
