OK,
First of all DO NOT, repead DO NOT listen to any of the idiots here. Firearms laws, like firearms, are serious buisness, as is the giving of legal advice. Don't let some fool on the other end of the internet give you advice on something serious. Most of these folks here wouldn' t know which end of the gun to keep pointed down range, and youre asking THEM for advice? THEY aren't the ones who are going to get into trouble if they are wrong and you and/or your Dad get into legal trouble for firearms violations! Can you say "BAD idea"?
Second, from the LITTLE I saw of the Minnesota gun statutes it looks like it is illegal for anyone under 18 to posess a handgun unless in the actual presence of a presence of a parent or guardian for the purpose of firearms instruction. That pretty much shoots down the idea of your having your own gun, (unless you are 18, 19, or 20).
I think you also need a permit, and I would guess that they probably don't l give handgun permits to people under 18, but I don't KNIOW and I did NOT read the whole thing. As you can see from the link, it is a little more involved than just that. Not being someone who is liscensed to practice law in Minnesota, I'm not able to give you a real answer to this, and neither is anyone else here. You need to get advice from someone who knows the answer, not a bunch of yahoos on Yahoo.
I would talk to your dad, and if he is cool with it talk to a gun store. The guys at the gunstores know gunlaws inside out and upside down and sideways. They have to because if they frack up they loose their liscense and go to jail. Short of that call the local police department. They know the laws as well as, or better, than most lawyers. Either that or call the local NRA chapter, if they don't know they could find out.
This is a serious question and you deserve a serious answer. Following a wrong answer could land you in jail. Sorry I couldn't give you a good one, at least I could tell you where to get a good one and not to listen to the bad ones.
Good luck.

You can't buy a handgun in any state in the Union if you're under 21 years of age. But yes, your dad can buy it for you and give it to you as a gift as long as he lists his intentions on the forms.

Of course you can buy a handgun if you're not 21, heck you can buy a handgun if you're not 16.
Try your local school, alot of the gangsta's that loiter about the parking lot should be able to sell you a gun, maybe you would like a handgun and a sawn-off shotty...
Failing that, you could check some of your local gang hangouts. Make sure that you were a black hoodie so that you blend into their natural environment. Don't wear a police uniform when approaching them either, that way you may get shot before you can acquire a weapon of your own.
Oh and don't forget, Guns don't kill people, and neither do people, it's the impact of a projectile moving faster than the speed of sound tumbling through your body that kills you.

No, not in any state. But, you can buy a Rifle or shotgun if over 18.
As for your dad buying it and giving it to you, still the same issue, you cannot legally possess one.

I could've sworn the age was 18 in some areas. 18 to buy a weapon, but 21 to possess or purchase ammo. Something along those lines.

Can you buy a handgun if you aren't 21?
I hope not! (You see, there's probably a good reason why there are some restrictions!)

Nope. You will have to wait. They will run a background check on you. It wouldn't be smart, I wouldn't think. He could let you use it and if anyone saw you using it you can just say that you are using his gun.

Well, not legally. You can buy one but not legally. You cant have it registered and you cant get a permit to carry it.
You can buy one from Joey Numbers down on the corner of Fifth and Ludlow. Tell him i sent you.
