Red is only a definition. We say that something is "red" when the frequency of light coming from the an object is about 448,000,000,000,000 Hertz.
Other colors have different frequencies. Our eyes respond to only a very narrow range of wave frequency. There are all sort of "other" colors that we don't see. Instead of names (like red, blue, pink) we use other words to describe the things we can't see (radio waves, UHF, VHF, Microwave, ultraviolet, etc.)
Cool, eh?

red is my polish nail when I look for some attention;
red is the colour of my lips in a moment of passion, otherwise their dully pink;
red is the sun when I won't stop looking at it;
red is my mother's favourite colour;
red is my face when I am mad and when I want to kiss someone but instead I keep on looking at him;
Red I am when I love, hate and when I try to make up a solution to your question:)
Cheers!

Its the color of Jesus' blood.
Just to let you know, I'm not one of the people who bring the topic of religion into everything. It's just that you asked what it meant to me and red just happens to mean Jesus' blood to me. It's also the color of love.
