If you are not paying for it then yes. But the people that get caught mostly are the people that share it.

Limewire is not, but downloading copyrighted material is. If you were to write a song, and you wanted to promote it and you didn't copyright it, I could download it legally. However, most of the material on the websites such as bearshare, kazaa and limewire IS copyrighted, and that makes downloading music stealing - which, of course, is illegal.
The same goes for printed material: if you write a poem and decide that you don't want to copyright it, I can download the doc or pdf legally. Books - not so much.
I understand that lots of people still use limewire, but I personally wouldn't. Apart from the obvious moral quandary (If I steal someone else's music, it's the same as stealing a CD in a store,) authorities are cracking down. Granted, your chances of getting caught are slim, but there is no guarantee that you'll get away with it. If you are underage, your parents might end up paying your fine, and that fine can be thousands of dollars.

actually using limewire is NOT illegal. You can download for personal use only, not for public exhibition or to sell. Once you violate those terms it is then illegal use of limewire

for the most part yeah. The only time a program like that is legal is when you buy everything you download because a license must be obtained. I wouldn't recommend you stop using it but I would recommend that you not sell anything you download.

Limewire is legal, you just can't infringe the copyright laws upon music. Certin files have licsnces attached, when downloaded you have to have the liscence verified.
