Is this for a second drive in the Dell? If it's for a main drive, you will have to call Microsoft and re-activate your copy of WinXP. The reason being, the hardware configuration is way different from the Compaq to a Dell that is what triggers the product re-activation. If it's for a second hard drive, install the drive as a "Slave" on the same IDE ribbon cable as the main "Master" drive. By slave and master, I'm referring to the jumper settings that are on the back of the hard drives. They are small bits of plastic on the back of the drives that span between two pins. There are letters etched above the jumper area, the drive which has Windows XP on it is the "Master" or "MA" etched on the back of the drive, place the plastic "jumper" under that etch. On the second drive, place the plastic "jumper" under the etch "SL" then plug the IDE ribbon cable's mid cable fitting into the second hard drives IDE cable receiver port. The final IDE cable plug goes to the "master" drive's IDE port. Then plug in the power plugs to each drive.
