I'm not really sure about the U.S., but Canadian sentencing for sexually assaulting children seems excessively lenient to me. Just recently a man who sexually assaulted nine preadolescent boys in Canada received 3 and a half years only...Is it just me or something seriously wrong with that? Is there something I'm overlooking?

Whoa, those are a lot of "extreme" answers (esp the torture-related answers)! I gues s that should be expected with such a sensitive topic...any other ideas/comments/thoughts that aren't as extreme?

It is the same here also. These sick, depraved, perverted pedophiles literally destroy the lives of the most innocent and defenseless, not to mention their families. Adding insult to injury, many end up with little more than a slap on the wrist. It is getting worse all the time. No sentence on earth would be harsh enough for these scum.

To reply to your comment about the "extreme" answers. This is about children, innocent, weak, defensless children who don't stand a CHANCE against an adult. So NO, NO punishment is too extreme. The only thing WRONG is that the PARENTS or family members are not the ones allowed to DECIDE the punishment.

Circumstances? Maybe he had good lawyers? Who knows. What I do know is that Canadian law is different from US Law. I am not sure any sentence handed out for a crime is good enough. There always seems to be a loophole for criminals.
What would be enough. I firmly believe it should be dependent on the age of the child assaulted and that the younger the child the more severe the punishment. Under 5 or 6 years of age should be life without parole in general population!

It is a travesty, watch the Dateline series, some of these animals got probation. If the judges daughter had been a victim, maybe there would be justice. Nothing will be done until people get together and demand it. Like the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. These people will keep harming children, because nothing deters them, it is a case for vigilante justice.

No. The sentencing is not fair. The victims seem to have no rights. There are apparently thousands of kiddie porn sights on the net and even show babies being raped. I think the offenses here are as bad if not worse then murder and the sentences should be long especially sinse there seems no cure for their obsessions.

I'm annoyed that those kind of people are even allowed to live and take taxpayers money while thier stinking souls rot in jail. I think that they should all be catapolted into a brick wall. Of course this would happen after they had thier discussting private parts cut off with a dull knife.

Something about molesting a child stays with the child for the entirety of its life. It destroys the self esteem of the child and that makes it a target for bullies.

Child molestors should get mandatory life sentences and castrated.

Canadian courts tend to be too soft on all criminal activities but the lenient sentences for those who prey on children makes me sick. The politicians who make the laws just don't care.

As far as I am concerned, the only "Fair" sentance for child molesters/predators is to have their genitals removed, with a dull knife, then stuff them in their mouths, bury them alive up to their wastes, cover them in honey, put 1,000 tiny cuts on their bodies and then leave them in the woods to let Natures very efficient disposal system have at them. That or shoot them on the spot

No way, no how! All that the judge is saying is what you did was naughty, here let me slap your wrist. "tap" What a horrible sentencing! He should have been sent to prison. He probably would have been killed in there anyway, it doesn't matter the size! Prisoners may kill their wives, but they'd kill for their kids to stay safe!

Yes way to lenient. If theyre guilty they need to be executed. In South Carolina they give you the option either be castrated or life in prison without parole.
