Why do most of you choose to use those avatars instead of a REAL picture of yourself?

They aren't cute and/or funny. I don't get it. Are you ashamed to use a picture of yourself or what is it?

I don't have a 360 yet.... I'm still debating with myself whether I should get one or not... But, if I do, I'll put my picture up....


At least an avatar is better than the default grey face.

My most recent picture is from about 10 years ago, so it isn't exactly a true representation of what I look like now. Unless I copy in my driver's license photo..ewww..those are all scary.

Second, I consider Y!A a place where I don't have to worry about being 100% "politically correct"...unlike in my professional life. So, I can say what I want and as long as I play within the Y!A rules, I have no repercussions, professionally or personally. If I don't use my real name and real picture, it makes it that much less likely anyone will "recognize" me.

Third, I don't want to use a REAL picture. You can if you want to. I don't.

I think most of us pick pictures that resemble ourselves but that
people from work and other places that you don't want sticking
their noses into your homelife or to know all of your opinions will
recognize you. I am not crazy about alot of people I have worked
with in the past and even now. I looked like this but with longer
hair a few years ago and these facial features are alot like me. I
do have green eyes, brown hair and same nose. My hair is now
similar but still longer. I am not ashamed of my picture but I do
not want it on the internet.
I do not have a 360 at this time maybe down the road and in the
future but no time for that right now.

An avatar is the closest representation of me as I see myself every day. But a personal photo comes a little too close and would make me paranoid because the internet is a dangerous place.

Actually my avatar looks alot like me and quite frankly I don't have a picture that I want to share at the moment. Why does it bother you so much, the pics are half the fun,,,,,lighten up

My avatar is a good representation of what I look like---ok my hair is a little darker red. I don't know who all is out here and I like to maintain some small level of anonymity.

because i already have a facebook and a myspace, and a yahoo profile that's not a 360.. i don't feel the need to make a 360 profile just so i can put a picture of myself on here, although if enough people like you keep bitching i may just do it

I don't know what happened but everytime i try and upload my picture on here, it says error please try again and i tried a lot of times already and then finally i just decided to use an avatar.
