life has no purpose,
but on stage every person, every action has a cause.
my smallest role has been the widow in taming of the shrew.
in december.., i never really felt like part of the cast because of that, and because only the other major roles were cast, no servants or anything. i only had like 6 lines., but stick it out w/ your dedication, it'll earn everyone's respect.
i understand what you're going through.
:]

This is bad example, however the smallest role I was ever casted as was the 2nd female lead in a musical we did. However there were many smaller roles played by some great actors.
There is no such thing as a small role, only small actors.

There are no small parts only small actors... My Friend and I just auditioned for a musical (sleeping beauty) and she got cast as a maiden (pretty much means she is ensemble) And she is really sad cause all her friends have according to her better roles. we all are pretty much Ladies in Waiting (except like 2-3 people) which is also ensemble except we have a special waltz scene... anyway any part is a good part... just be happy you got into the play especially if it is your 1st. My smallest role ever in a play would be in Seussical. I was cast in the ensemble as a tiger.

i don't think anything is worse than an oompa loompa that is silent and just stands backstage sleeping. especially since the orange face paint is **permanent** and didn't come off.. even went i had to go shopping that night!
i felt real sorry for myself the whole time cause I wanted a good part.. but i'm a freshman of course!.. but in the end- it was actually pretty fun! but don't worry.. soon you'll be able to let that star of your's ~*~*sHiNe!*~*~
ps. also played a part in wizard of oz when i was little and it was suppose to be a big part.. but as they were going over their time limit, cut out EVERY line and EVERY song!!! (and that's not it my friend. at the show, i tripped and fell off the back of the stage and caused the backdrop to fall and ruin everything! hm... maybe that's why i never got a good part...)

i just had to sit on stage so that there would be a "classroom scene".
don't feel bad about it. because those without lines play an important role too. there are some people that watch the actors that aren't in the main cast. they would check if those with so-called small parts would give importance to their role. it may be a stepping stone, so dont' lose hope on that role!

haha in 5th grade I played a "flower lady" who walked across the stage once in "Annie". memories. Now I am playing in an International Thespian Society play as the major role that we are performing for a contest. Experience pays off..... Just make the most of it- play your part well. Learn and have fun :)
God Bless and Be Safe :)

The smallest role I've had only consisted of one single line: "I think it was HIM!".
The biggest role I've had was the title role. So don't despair. Small parts are also very important. You wouldn't leave out the small amount of salt in your stew or porridge, right?

I played the Baliff in What Women Want Most.
I think I had like 3 lines and had to stand stock still for 45 minutes.
I did get to break up a sword fight, but that's all

I was once cast as an oompa loompa, too. That was in middle school. The director lady had said that she was going to get kindergarteners to play the part of the oompa loompas. I was so sad. Apparently I wasn't the only one cast as an oompa loompa. So many people didn't even show up for rehersal that we just cancelled it. It can't get any worse than being cast as an oompa loompa.
