I love to write but I find that I have a hard time coming up with ideas and then writing short stories, unless its for school. It seems everything is either too short, too boring, or too long. Right now, I want to write a couple short stories but as usual, I'm having trouble. Does anyone have any tips?

Write about life, but spice it up! For example, you could turn the regular "divorce story" into the story of a runaway who was motivated by her parents' divorce.
I have the same problem, but I think you should at least consider my advice. Keep a notebook, as so many people have told me to do. Write down every idea that comes to you, no matter how boring or unoriginal it may seem. You can always fix it up later. That's why they invented computers and Wite-Out!

If you feel like you were born to be a writer, don't give up. A painter didn't paint a masterpiece by telling himself that he stank and would never become a true artist. So a writer won't write a book by telling themselves that they are horrible and won't write a page. Keep it up!

Don't panic, don't panic. If you can write poetry well, and I may be wrong, but you should be able to come up with a topic easily. OR you could take a poem you really like and expand on the topic in a short story, even if it only deals with emotions. If it's love, write a short story about a man expressing his love for a woman, even if it's as simple as him presenting flowers to her randomly (which I think is romantic). My short stories are generally incredibly simple and short (usually about a half page on MS Word). I don't think you're hopeless. You should find out what exactly is wrong with your short stories, what you don't like, be more specific about how it's so boring, etc. Break it down and look at it. That may help.
