It's suppose to be in the tray in the lower right hand corner of the screen. It use to be there but not any more. It disappeared right around the time when my speakers stopped working. I think these two things might be connected. How can I get that icon back - mabe it will help my sound issue - i.e., as in no sound at all.

This recently happened to me.

To get it back temporarily, go to Start | Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Volume tab.

If "Place volume icon in the taskbar" is checked, uncheck it and click Apply, then recheck it and click Apply. That will make it show up in the taskbar. However, it may not be there when you reboot. It may have been deleted from your Startup items.

You mentioned your speakers stopped working? Right click "My Computer" click Properties, then go to the Hardware tab. Click Device Manager. Expand your Sound, video and game controllers. Look for one of those with a ! inside a yellow circle. Right click that device and left click Properties. Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver. Do a reboot, just in case.

Hopefully that will help restore your sound.

Well I use:

Creative speaker Surround Mix

When that leaves the toolbar I simply click find the application maunally via the Start Menu.

If you can not see it maybe you:

Deleted it
It was a trial period
