The collagen fibers are the strength of the tendon. If a muscle is pulled by both ends, which will give way first? It's usually the muscle...Tendons are very strong because of the collagen fibers incased in them.

Truly it is collagen. It is a very strong protein. In fact it is collagen that also gives bone its tensile strength, and bone its flexibility.
