My husband isn't excited at the idea, but I am thinking of going back to school and re-focusing my life. I don't even know what I want to major in yet. I just know that I ma tired of working for a low wage and want to be able to do something I enjoy and feel challenged with. The ideas I love would mean 7 years of school.

It is never too late to go to school. Doing so will automatically redirect your life. Don't be afraid if you don't know what you want to major in, most students change their major at least once anyway. I started in International Business and hated it. I finally got a degree in History. Am I working in that field today? No, but my last two jobs have each paid around $40K/yr. If that doesn't motivate you, maybe this will. While I was going to college, there was another History major in the program. He was a little older than most of the students and finished the program in four years. His age at graduation, 88 years old. Now do you feel it's too late to go back to school?

It's never too late to try something new! I am currently enrolled as an alternative student in my own community college, which is only the first leg of my five year journey. As an older student with a family and other priorities I plan on taking it slow. My only advise to you is research your financial aid options extensively, there are a lot incentives in some communities for certain careers that may make your transition from work force to student less stressful. As an older student you may not want to accumulate as much debt as a person with additional years and lack of mortgage might. Seven years is quite a commitment, be sure that you love the process of learning and the atmosphere of collage before you cut your ties with your current job. Most community colleges offer night courses, they are usually inexpensive if you were to try one for a semester.

i was 31 when i went back to school, i'm 33 now and at least 2 yrs away from my degree. I had gone to college right out of HS. went for 2 years for psychology, hated it, then quit. joined the military and got some more education from them. then i got out of the military and went back to college for computer science.
I guess what i'm saying is that it's NEVER too late to go back to school. there are students much older than I, in some classes. And I started out as a psych major and turned around to do something completely different. All I know is that when i graduate (WHEN, not IF) i will have a degree and hopefully some skills that will get me a really great job doing something i like, and will be paid WELLL for it!
Dont hesitate to go to school. take your time, take all the general requirements first before you decide wat to major in.
Good luck to you!!

I this it is never too late to go back to school. But, re-directing our lives may not be feasible. In your particular case, supposing your husband can support you both, and you can put up with downgrading your life style for the time needed, you should give it a try. A last peace of advice: be sure you love each other for school can readjust your points of view.

It's never too late to go back to school, and learning should be a lifelong endeavor.

But the reality is that going back to school to change careers in your 30's or later may be of very little benefit to you depending what you hope to do.

The market place is not pleasant to older graduates, and the cost to interrupt a current career to go back to school might never be made up in new or better wages.

There is a point in one's life where changing one's career course is just no longer possible.

But at just what age that can occur depends upon one's circumstances.

As far as education goes, continuing education should be part of everyone's life plan.

But that continuing education may have no impact on one's employability or income earning potential...especially as one ages....

It is a wonderful idea, at any age! Never too late. There are "tests" you can take that evaluate your personality, likes and dislikes, then gives you suggestions at what you would be good at and enjoy. These are great because they come up with ideas you may not have thought of! Good Luck! And Good For You takiing the step to be happy instead of settling for the rest of your life!

It is always a good thing to go to school even if it is just for something you enjoy and can add to your life. Who knows,it could even lead to a whole new experience.Seven years is a long time to go back to school, but it could be worth it.Good luck.

Do it. We humans were built to learn and grow. Learning more about anything, and especially learning challenging things that lead to improvement of your life are what keeps us going and achieving. In an ever changing universe, it doesn't make sense to not continue to improve oneself.

It's NEVER to late to go back to school. If your doing something that you do not love doing then your not living in my opinion. Life is short and you have to do something that you will never regret. If you don't go back your gonna regret it. I know it. Good Luck and GO BACK!!!!!!
