The hell. No... they're not. They're both post-punk bands. Emo kids listen to music called emo... hardcore, etc.

Tell that fag to OVERDOSE while listening to Operation Ivy. <3

You should probably not take into much consideration what others may label you, as it is just an ignorant opinion.

The Cure and Smith's are known as being some of the main defining sounds of the 80's, and I have only heard the term Emo within the last few years.

Maybe current Emo bands are emulating a style that originated over 2 decades ago, but your preference in music does not necessarily make you Emo.

I consider The Smiths and The Cure whiney, pretentious, and annoying. I'm still not entirely sure what emo is....but everything I;ve heard that has been called emo was whiney, pretentious, and annoying. So while I think emo is a much later musical movement, The Cure, The Smiths, and what I guess is called emo all have being whiney, annoying, and pretentious in common. Rock shouldn't whine. I have no time to listen to some balless weenie crying. Stick Smashing Pumpkins in this category as well. At least they Smashing Pumpkins had a sense of humor about their miserableness.

No way. The Cure go back to the late 70's are if not considered post-punk then they are considered new wave/english pop. The Smiths are in a class by themselves.

Morrissey might as well be emo, but technically, no, they're both post-punk.
