My furnace will not shut off when it is in normal operating mode. When my switches on the thermostat are set to heat and fan to auto, the heat comes on no matterwhat the temperature is set at and blows heat into the house. The system will not shut off unless I turn the switch to off. Can a thermostat go bad or is it something else?

Thermostats really are not that expensive. It sound like this is your problem. Just make sure you get the right one for your style of system. The make many different types.

Chances are it is not your thermostat, more likely would be a stuck closed sequencer inside electric furnace. You should really call a contractor to repair. You would need a multimeter and wiring diagram to troubleshoot accurately

sounds like a thermostat to me. but calling a service repairman in could save you from buying unnecessary parts and wasted time. that's my suggestion is to call someone.

yes stats do go bad I suggest you get a heating professional to check and service your system if it is gas operated it should be serviced at least every two years ideally every year.

could be some somewhat some issues. i could start up with checking or changing the thermal coupling. the subsequent, if equipped, could be a circuit board. some have diagnostic leds that could point out a topic. previous that i could could desire to get a HVAC tech out.
