i adopted a 9 ft redtail with open wounds....took her to the vet and all that got antibiotics and creams and stuff....they have been scabs for about a month....but shes getting ready to shed and i can see cracked spots in the scabbing...the cracks look like they are all the way to the raw flesh.....i am worried she is going to shed of the scabs and be back to open wounds again...i have been putting the creams the vet gave me over the scabs to keep it wet...and have been soaking her more...i there anything else i can do?

Most likely what will happen is this...

The snake will shed, and since the scabs are tougher than the skin being shed, you will be left with a few patches. Don't mess with any skin around the scabs that sticks. Shedding is a sign of growth/healing and normally retained skin is not wanted, but in this case, it will add to the scab. Your snake shedding is a very good sign. Make sure she's well fed, she'll need plenty of nutrition to heal more quickly. Good luck, I hope she gets better.

This is a tough situation for you. Is your vet someone who specializes in reptiles/snake? He/she would have the best handle on the situation, if so. Many other vets will try to help as best they can, but don't have specialized knowledge when in comes to herps.

If your vet is not a reptile/snake specialist, maybe he/she would be willing to consult with another vet that is. Here's a listing for vets (by state) that work with animals such as yours.

Good luck with your redtail. It sounds like you're looking after her.

Nothing like a scab sheddin. Try Valtrex maybe?
