It may, or it may not work, to introduce another male to an older male who is set in his ways, and use to the single life-style. In the rat fancy we always advize caution, it must be done slowly and carefully.

Some things to consider before hand:
The dominance squabbles might be noisy and sound horrific to you. Can you handle it without resorting to separating them all the time?
Getting two baby boys so the youngsters have each other if the intros are not going so well.
Would you know the signs of too much stress for both boys.
A real fight will end in the death of the youngster.
I have had loner male rats bond successfully to a young male until the youngster reaches puberty at 5 to 6 months of age. Then the dominance squabbles start.

The best age for introductions is if the new male is 6 weeks old. No testosterone, no threat to the older male.

Not too late, as long as your cage is big enough. I had a male rat for 2 years before getting another male rat. My old rat followed my new rat around the cage with his nose up the new rats butt for 15 minutes and then that was the end of it. they had one fight and now they're bestest of buds. Dont get a female rat, you'll have a ton of babies before you know it (I made this mistake before)

I've put new rats (of the same sex) in with rats I already had and after they get used to each other every thing is fine, unlike hamsters, rats are very social and your rat will probably enjoy the company.

not necessarly, however you will have to take it slow while introducing them. If you are going to try then I recoment you get a small cage to keep your new male in for a necessary 10 day quarentien period and then keep the cages side by side while they get use to each other. After that take them both out for a bit and let them interact. Before you move your new male in to the main cage with your older male make sure you do a VERY compleat cleaning! I suggest using 2 parts bleack to 10 parts water and whipe down EVERYTHING so that they are on fresh ground and nobody "owns" that cage.

Best of luck with your ratties!

not if you get a female and if they breed you can always sell them to the pet shop.

he may attack a female but only until he smells her butt, then it will be true love for ever and ever.
