You sync music onto different types of mp3 players using a type of music player on the computer. Sync is merely a way of transfering downloaded or ripped songs from a CD onto your ipod when you connect it to the computer.

Well, sync usually means to synchronize, which is like making your files compatible to your iPod. So, basically, the "iPod thing" is letting you know that something is either

a) becoming compatible or
b) needs to become compatible

Hope that this helps!

Sync is an abreviation of synchronise.

To synchronise things is to make them time-coincident, or in step.

The word has been misused in its common application to pcs, ipods, etc.
