That depends on you and your needs.
There is TM, Actualism, Vippisana, Zen, guided meditation, etc. then there are binarual tapes that play different tones into each ear via head phones where you do not have to do anything but listen.
Find a form of meditation you like, and run with it.
I posted a zen brochure on my blog January 8th in case you are interested.

This works well for me:
1.Find a quiet place where you can do this alone without interruption.
2.Loosen any tight clothes & remove shoes.
3.Subdue bright lights.
4.Sit straight upright in a chair with feet flat on the floor.
5.Place hands palms up on your thighs.
6.Close your eyes.
7.Begin a series of in/out deep breaths through your nose and you hold all air in your DIAPHRAM (not your chest) for 6-8 counts.
8.Exhale each breath through your mouth making a HAAAA sound as it _completely_ leaves your body.
9.Do this breathing at least 5-6 times until you feel your body relaxing as if you were sinking into the chair.
10.Let your mind become calm and center your internal focus on one pleasant image (candle, flower, etc.)
11.Ignore any outside noise and gently bring your mind back to the pleasant image. Just let your focus soften around the internal image.
12.Know that you are safe and a perfect child of God.
14.Practice for 5-10 minutes until you can slip into the calm state easily with your breathing series.
15.Add 5-10 minutes more each day once you've mastered the technique of quieting and let yourself listen and hear internal message(s) you may receive; your high-self is giving you advice.
16.You can also do this under a tall-strong tree (trees love sharing their energies with us)in the woods or anywhere you have privacy and quiet.
17.The practice of "practicing daily" will bring you both peace and joy.
Many blessings.

That entirely depends on you and yours, and what sits well with you. Have you ever meditated before?
I you never have .. its about breathing, the depth and rythm.
Can start with staring at candle flame and become drawn into it. If you never meditated before you start feling restless quite soon as the body is not used to staying still. Do this for 5mnin and increasing it as you feel comfortable with it.
Another way is to sit in the garden. And close your eyes and to listen to the sounds that come to you whilst you 'feel' your presence expanding around yourself. You can get quite good with this as you can then 'feel' anything/body entering in your space before they announce themselves.
I suggest to read up about it as there are many and varied techniques, and experiment. Its fun, but not to use drugs or alcohol.. your asking for trouble if you do.
