I think it might be a concentration thing. Instead of being concerned with their jump and release, they can just visualize the ball going through the basket and concentrate on their arm motion and release. I think jumping at the free throw line would look goofy by now.

It is not a violation if they player lands behind the free throw line. It is not possible for most players to shoot a jump shot as accurately as a set shot. The jump gives another way for something to go wrong while shooting. However, Basketball hall of famer Hal Greer used to shoot jump shots for his free throws. Greer finished with an outstanding 80% career free throw percentage using that technique.

On the other end of the spectrum, hall of famer Rick Barry used to shoot free throws underhanded. Barry finished his career shooting 92% from the line, which is still the second highest in NBA history.

It's not a violation, but it's much easier to use your wrist to shoot, and only slightly bend the knees. It's a FREE-THROW, why jump and waste energy when you'll do plenty of leaping throughout the game....

Hal Greer shot jumpers at the line. It's ok if you don't jump over the line.
Wilt Chamberlain could dunk from a standing start from behind the line. So it was banned.

Some of them are so strong that, if they jumped, they would "brick" their shots so bad. Only Hal Greer, a former Philadelphia 76er, used to "jump shoot" his free throws.
