Mr. Kinkade gives you that nice warm feeling. He is regarded as "schlock" by the art world. Who cares, you know what you like. You can open a whole world of great artists to your eye. Go to your library and explore. My favorites are found in the "Hudson River Valley School" of art. I also like the "Impressionist" artists. I saw Monet's "Water Lilies" in NYC. It is huge. When you look at it up close it is just brush strokes. You have to stand back and see the beauty. It is incredible. My personal favorite artist is Fred Swan. He was a math teacher in Barre VT and painted on the side. He uses acrylic paint on masonite, painting scenes of New England that will "blow" your mind and eye. The detail is incredible. This is the reverse of impressionism. You can enjoy the scene and then look close to see the detail of every blade of grass or leaf. My parents bought a painting while he was still teaching, at a sidewalk sale in Woodstock VT 30 years ago for $400. It is worth $2400 now. I cannot afford his paintings but enjoy his calender each year. Check him out at fredswan.com.
Enjoy art of all kinds. It is what makes us human.
