I have been meditating 6 days a week for many years.
I prefer Zen, and I posted a zen brouchure I wrote to my blog. Take a look at it if you are interested.
Click on my avatar, then click on my 360 page, then click on my blog. I think I posted the brochure on January 8th.

I have a great story for you. I learned to meditate while I was in college. I was getting average grades. Someone told me about mantra meditation. He told me it would help me with school. I started meditating within a week. After 6 months I was making top grades. Learning was much easier. I stayed more focused and could concentrate better. That was just one of the benifits. There were many more as time went on. I sleep better, make better decisions, have far less stress in my life. There are three basic techinques: 1. Contemplation meditation You think about something and try not to focus on anything else. Follow the thought to its beginning, like thinking of a leaf, then follow the sap through the branch, down the trunk of the tree, into the ground etc. It takes a lot of effort to keep focused.
2, Concentration meditation Focus your attention on one object. Stare at it as long as possible. This is hard to do too.
3. Mantra meditation A mantra is a word or sound that allows the mind to be released from the ego body connection. It's natural effect is to let the body relax and the brain relaxes too. That's when the healing begins.
Obviously I chose the mantra meditation.
There are other forms of meditation like chanting, or praying. Is this what your were thing about?

The answer is Yes. It is nearly impossible to explain all the techniques here. There are very good books written by experienced meditators that gives step by step instructions. I have my own experience of success. As a Doctor I have advised many of my patients to practice meditation while using my treatments. I have found very good results.
It is best, if you can practice meditation under an experienced teacher.
Remember, the secret of success is 'patience'. Do not expect immediate results. But, i can guarantee you will experience the good effects from the day 1.

Yes definitely. But tell you all the techniques would wear out my fingers. Basically take 3 deep breaths and count backwards from 100 to zero. Allow any distractions or thoughts to just run their course and start back where you remember you were last but don't sweat the details. After 20 minutes simply become alert and go on your way. Best done first thing in the morning. Contact me and I can mail you a cd with guided meditation.

Sitting listening to music is merely that - Sitting listening to music. it extremely is not MEDITATION. Sitting and relaxing is merely that - Sitting and relaxing. it extremely is not MEDITATION. Meditation because of the fact the barest minimum could desire to be the CONTEMPLATION of a few thing. in case you like any earnings, then you definately could desire to apply some technique that has shown some earnings. Meditation interior the west look to incorporate some varieties that has actually no earnings and is an trouble-free waste of time. The Buddhists look to have spent the main time in perfecting their meditation technique and regrettably many Christians and Muslims do no longer desire to apply their ideas on account that they have self assurance that's a factor of the Buddhist 'faith'. Buddhist meditation could be practiced by skill of everyone; it would not refer on your god or the different god. that's in basic terms coaching your ideas. If this nonetheless scares you, attend mindfulness coaching anyplace that's being provided. that's the main uncomplicated concept of meditation.

Meditation and daydreaming got a lot in common, so if you can daydream, you can meditate. It's just focusing on one thought and when your thoughts wander, you gently go back to what you were focusing on. Sounds easy, but it takes practice. The mind doesn't like being in one spot all the time. By its untrained nature, it's a wanderer. You have to train it to stay in one spot and that takes a while.

There are many different types of mediations. Aside from the ones listed you could try rolling around a sound in your head and focusing on that sound. :) Also, there are many books available with meditations. Good Luck!
