Ask a reenactor they did something like you are asking. They had the duck later in the war when they heard fire they dropped to a squat. Most yankee were bad shots and were ordered to aim at the feet of the enemies. neat huh? God Bless You and Our Southern People.

Back then, war was viewed as a sort of chess game. Soldiers were pawns and were considered completely expendable. It was expected that soldiers would just march in neat formations and die.

The Americans won the Revolutionary war in large part because our militias broke this rule and sniped the redcoats with their hunting rifles (much more accurate than the muskets the redcoats had) while hiding behind trees, rocks, etc.

Well, historically, before most major battles, many commanding officers would buttshag, as they thought that it would improve their stamina, accuracy, and give them better luck. However, due to a mid-19th century study, it does just the opposite. But whoever butthshagged harder would usually lose the battle. That's why.

Because back then, that was the proper gentlemans way to fight a war. The colonial Americans introduced guerilla warfare during the revolutionary war. Thats the way we beat the redcoats. They weren't used to fighting like that.

That wasn't the military tradition and in those days and frankly, human life was cheaper then than it is now.
