There's an annual ranking of this. (Don't have a url, but it shouldn't be hard to google up.) Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Ireland were on the last one. Expensive, but the quality of life is high. Unlike most countries that give their oil profits away to multinational corporations, Norway is using it to make life even better for their people. What a concept.
Personally, I love France because the food really is that good. And the people are even better.
The U.S. is way over-rated. Look at all of them who think that they have freedom. Yep, freedom to choose which of seven brands to buy, freedom to give away all of their rights to the lowest bidder.

I prefer the USA. I lived in the Azores once though, and I loved it! Such a beautiful island that is green all year round and you can see the ocean from nearly any where. Plenty of restaurants are near the shore so you can eat and watch the waves. They have nice beaches and ice cream shops right by the beaches. Shopping is put together so you are walking outside from store to store. The service in restaurants is rather slow and that annoyed me at first.. but over time I got use to it and I started to really like that because it gives you time to sit down and have some wine and talk. Some people there do not like Americans.. and that was the only hard thing for me to cope with there because it made me feel so small.

New Zealand is the best for me - it has a high standard of living, The best food of any country Ive visited, the scenery is amazing, its not crowded, I love the culture, and we don't get too involved in world politics
Note for Still Always Correct: USA does NOT have the highest standard of living of any country - there are many including Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, which have higher, and these countries have all been pioneers of human rights - its not something you can easily measure.

I think this is a question that is impossible to answer unless/until one has experienced every country and seen every option. I mean, that's only fair, yeah? Otherwise one would be judging what he or she does not understand in a rather egotistical and ethnocentric manner. What good is that? None. So in short, I love my life here in the good old United States, but that's not saying that somewhere else cannot be just as great.

The US. IT's becasue it has more rights for people than any other country. On top of that, the US has the highest standard of living in the world. The government (however muddied up bu Bush) is the theoretical best in the world, and other than this 8 year black hole under Bush, it is. The US is home to the most powerful organized military, most resources, and most technologically advanced cities in the world.
You could make a case for the UK, Germany, Ireland, Australia, and the Netherlands.

There is no best. It's like asking which is the best pie, or the best flavor of ice cream.
If you ask people from fifty different countries, you'll probably get thirty-five different answers.
Sorry, there is no best. De gustibus non est desputatum.

I cannot be specific. So many countries have so many good things about them. How can we judge one over another?

Try North Korea, Iraq, Afganistan,Iran, Venezuela, China, Somolia, Saudia Arabia and the like, then come back to a free nation (if they let you) and see if you ask the same question.

It depends on what you want out of your country. For example, Canada is a democratic-socialist's heaven and a libertarian's hell.
