There are a few reasons this can happen.

1- On your customized station, Launchcast will only play songs that are in its library. You can check to see if what you have rated is a playable song. At music.yahoo.com, sign in to your station, then go to the Launchcast tab and Edit Station. Then click on Songs at the left of the page. Look for the Shook Ones song(s) you rated. Click on the Shook Ones title. On the song page that comes up, is there a little radio tower symbol by the song name? If not, the song can't play. If it does, the song is eligible to play.

2- Launchcast has rules it must abide by in feeding you music on your personal station. It will not play the same artist more than twice a day, and it will not play the same song if it already played in the past 1000 songs or "x" number of days (I don't know how many days must pass). (Note that if Launchcast has the same song multiple times, like on a greatest hits or on a single, it doesn't tie those different tracks together. You could hear the same "song" more than once in a short amount of time if Launchcast was in fact playing different tracks.)

The songs you hear on a fan or preprogrammed station count to the algorithm. So if you listen to the Mobb Deep station and heard Shook Ones, and then you go listen to your personal station, Launchcast remembers you heard Shook Ones on the other station and will wait its required amount to time or plays before the song is eligible to play again.

3- Chance. There is a strong degree of randomness to the music Launchcast feeds you on your personal station. Even though it favors your higher-rated songs, it can still bypass some of your top songs for quite awhile.

There are at least two ways you can increase your chances of hearing a given song:

1- Employ a rating scheme that reserves the top rating for your very favorite songs, and then give those songs your top rating. For example, if you use the 100-point rating system, and if you have rated 1000 songs, rate no fewer than 950 of those songs "90" or lower, and reserve "100" for your 50 most favorite songs. If you give too many songs your top rating, your chances of hearing any one of those songs diminishes. (And in this example, "Never Play" ratings don't count. If you have 950 "Don't Plays" and 50 100s, it is just the same as if you only had 50 ratings, all at the 100 point level. Every playable song would have the same rating, and there would be no differentiation. "Never Play" ratings should be avoided in general.)

2- Search for and rate every listing Launchcast has for your favorite song. For example, when I was researching your question, I searched for Shook Ones by title and saw that there were about 20 variations of that song by Mobb Deep. Rate them all 100 (or 4-stars) to increase your chances of hearing one of the versions of that song. (Note that this will tend to "crowd out" your other favorite songs, so I don't necessarily recommend you do this. I'm just telling you how you could do it if you wanted to.)

Launchcast isn't designed to let you pick songs with any great specificity. If you want to hear particular songs often, Yahoo will happily sell you a Yahoo Music Unlimited subscription which lets you pick the songs you want to hear and play them when you want. Or you could make the record company's day and buy the CD.
