My friend is under the impression that REAL women wear pink gingham dresses, heels, and bake cookies in the kitchen all day long. He is not a hermit and goes out in public regularly- I just don't think he really pays attention to women all that well.

Some of his other assertions-

1) I can't be a real woman because I choose to drive a pickup truck and drink beer. I dropped the engine in the truck with the help of my brother and got it running. (I live in the country and they are more practical than cars).
2) It's not womanly to like to shoot and collect guns.
3) He asked me if I would ever wear skirts and dresses- I told him yes, but not every day.
4) He keeps asking me "what do you want- a man or a woman?", as if my only motive for a sex change is sex.
5) He tries to tell me that women don't eat steak or hamburgers because his dates always ate salads.

Is it me, or is he just out of step with how women really are- he only saw what we wanted him to see?

We women are very multi-faceted. Therefore no two woman will ever be alike.

I have an Identical twin and although we are very similar... we are still so different its scary!

Well, most women wouldn't fix an engine or collect guns, most most women live in either a city or a suburb- they don't need to! I go hunting with my boyfriend, and while I know nothing about cars, i'd like to learn. I wear jeans and hiking boots- dresses are for special occasions and hot summer days. I like to get my hands dirty. I do like to cook and crochet, but not all girls do. I haven't eaten a salad for months- i got a steak on my last date, and I ordered it rare. I drink beers with the boys. You don't have to be 'girly' to be a girl! It looks like your friend has some weird 50s era warped idea of what women are.

Besides, you don't have to suddenly develop a love for men if you deside to go MTF. I know a few, and most of them have ended up in lesbian relationships. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Your 'friend' needs a reality check!
People just like to put objects/people into categories (like 'so and so is a religious freak or 'Jimmy' is a war hound)....and I guess by what you have told us, your friend thinks a 'real' woman are salad eaters, dress wearers, cookie makers, and domestic divas. But as you and I both know, that isn't true! Your friends way of thinking is just a pre-conceived idea that a specific individual has about another.
Like you said....he sees only what he wants....and that is sad.

Just be yourself, love life, be giving, and surround yourself with happiness!

Take care-

I think he's right. If you want a sex change
operation, that means that you are not happy
with your current equipment or it's not going
to be able to accommodate you for the future
plans that you have. If you do have attraction
to same sex, then you are probably gay, the
surgery isn't needed to make things right. There
are millions of gay people in the world. Mutilating
yourself doesn't change matters.

Ultimately, women do not act like men. All of the above are rarely done by women, except maybe the beer, although they don't 'tear themselves up'. I never thought about it but he's right-they don't eat much meat.
