Looking to buy a (used or new) pickup truck, and my main priority is getting something that will require very little TLC/extra maintenence. Help is appreciated.

i own a repair shop, and right now the Chevrolet's are looking real good ,especially with the 100 thousand mile warranty on them, and it covers from bumper to bumper also,,but there looking better ,they actually beat Toyota out this year on sales ,you might want to look in to test driving a few of them, they have several different models to choose from,i agree with i wouldn't want to to have to worry about maintenance and repairs either,,people now days really don't have time to deal with this stuff on a regular basis, but id check in to one, remember the est drive is free, and you may find one you like, right now is a buyers market, everyone want to sell so you have a lot to choose from, good luck,i hope this help,s.

That sucks you don't want another Chevy. I've had two Silverados and both have been amazing. I have 226,500 miles on my 01's original motor and it still runs awesome, getting 21 mpg highway, and very very energetic. lol My 94 has over 300,000 on the original motor and tranny. If I were to go outside of GM, I'd probably go for a Dodge, cause that is my second choice, for a gas engine. I'd definitly go Ford for diesal. You could also look into the Tritan or Tundra if you'd like options. I don't know much about the two, but I hear that they are decent. As far as life expectancy, that depends mainly on you. If you take care of your ride, it will last. Keep up on the fluid changes, and check the levels regularly, even on a newer one. Any vehicle can last a long time, or crap out soon. Good luck!

I would buy a Ranger again. Mine has never let me down, and I beat it pretty hard, its 18 years old and its hasn't had many major problems when I have owned it or the previouse owner (family friend) who had owne it since new. Very well built truck. Personally I am a Dodge Fan. From now one I will only buy a Ford truck. I work in a garage and i see very few Ford trucks, and most of the ones i see are for maintance, nothing major. I see a lot of GM trucks for all sorts of problems, all the time. I see very few Dodge trucks as well. My father owns a Dakota, and hasn't had a problem with it for the 10 years he has owned it.

15 minutes worth of reading Consumer Reports Used Car Buying Guide is worth more than 10 hours of reading random peoples opinions on here. Seriously. There will be someone for every brand of truck telling you they owned one and it was the most reliable ever.

Peoples opinions are not objective and they aren't worth much when it comes to this sort of thing. Scientific research. Empirical evidence. Solid facts gathered from surveys and studies are what count.

Or I'll save you the trip to the library. Toyota is more reliable than anything else by far. It's a proven fact.

Well it depends on what kind of pick-up you are looking for. There are small pick-ups, large pick-ups, small crew pick-ups, and large crew pick-ups.

If you are looking at small pick-ups, the Toyota Tacoma would be the best pick. Although they are priced a little high they are very good small pick-ups. It is rugged, dependable and has a variety of body styles to fit your prefrence.

For the lare pick-up i recomend the Ford F-150 Series. You cannot go wrong with this truck it does everything well and also has a variety of cab styles to choose from.

The best choice for the small crew cab pick-up is the Dodge Dakota. This pick-up is very comfortable and can carry up to 5 adults.

And finaly for the large crew cab pick-up the best would be the Chevrolet Avalanche. A cross between the Taho and Silverado it provides a good experience.

You have to look at what your hauling.Do you want mini, midsize or fullsize?Do you want a 4banger,V6 or V8? I prefer a Chevy silverado, you can start off with the 4.8 V8,5.3,6.0 or 8.1. Do you want 4X4 or not?Heavy Duty or Light Duty? Import or export? All trucks on the road are reliable...I'm telling you this from experience. But I would rather have a V8 for a truck. If your gonna buy a truck, buy a truck.Your best bet is still the silverado or sierra.

I'd go with Ford, Dodge or GMC/Chevy, 2002 model or up.
You can get a Jap truck for more money, reliability is the same as US brands, and when you need to fix a Toy , it costs twice as much, and you will have to fix it, too.
You should find a 2002 Ford, Dodge or Chevy for less than 12K.
Toyota's are higher and are no better in reliability, since they are assembled here, parts not made here.

Toyota small trucks seem to be pretty good. I have had very little problems with full size Ford trucks.
