RE:
can anyone tell me how to clean 2nd floor windows without a window cleaner and not climbing a ladder?
I live in a 3 storey house. I have a window cleaner to clean the front but not the back as I am not at home when he calls. I have double glazing and my windows open out. I have a south facing garden and the sun shows up all the muck and grime on the windows.

Windex puts out a product that, when attached to a garden hose, will spray up to the second story. If you have enough pressure, you might be able to reach the second floor. It's called Windex Outdoor and Home Depot has it. It works fairly well, as long as there isn't any heavy duty build up on your windows, it's also great on vinyl siding.
You can also try a pressure washer with window cleaner in the reservoir.
Or you can get a ladder and get up there yourself and clean it that way. Good luck!

If you are in the UK you can buy off a television shopping channel (Sky 630 onwards) a magnetic window cleaner. All you have to do is place one piece of the two each side of the window and the one on the outside will always follow the one on the inside which you are controlling. Sounds daft, but looks as if it could work! Also I have a friend who uses a pressure washer.
Could you not arrange for your window cleaner to come around when you are in. It would be a lot easier!
Good luck.

can;t the cleaner come on a day when you're in?
or get one of those window cleaning devices (no more ladders) and do the whole lot yourself
http://www.reachandclean.co.uk/
this might be a tad expensive but might give you ideas on the types of equipment available. I just searched 'window cleaning no more ladders' and that was the first thing that came up. i'm sure if you spent a quick half hour you could find both cheap and useful stuff
i just looked on ebay and this has to be worth a try!!

Pressure washers have an attachment nozzle specifically for washing windows 2 or 3 stories up. Go to an equipment rental store and tell them what you want the pressure washer for- they might have the nozzle you need and change it for you for free.
Also, a little tutorial on how to use one never hurts- you can hurt someone if you don't know how to use them properly.
About an hour later after you start, you should have, some nice, shiny clean windows. :)

Use a garden hose with a sprayer bottle and mix some window cleaner in the bottle. Just spraying the window will loosen most dirt. Grease or oily film requires something like vinegar to get it off.
