I have had many, many problems with mcafee. My issue was that the protection would start up, then disable itself instantly. When I would go to reenable it, my computer would freeze. It seems as though mcafee's anti virus software has some compatablilty issues with windows xp. I have heard complaints from other mcafee users as well. I suggest that you contact them about getting a refund, and then downloading avg free edition, which gives you free, unlimited updates, and free updates to newer versions as they come out. First, go to mcafeehelp.com, and click on the customer service button and have them refund your money, then go to free.grisoft.com to get avg free edition. Hope this helps!

If you downloaded it directly from McAfee then you have login information. Uninstall it and then run a registry cleaner to make sure it is completely removed. Then try to reinstall it.
