Hi

The light is telling you that water has been detected in the fuel filter, and this is either because the fuel filter has not been bled or changed for a mighty long time, or you are using extremely sub standard diesel with a lot of water in it.

I am going with the first scenario and my advice to you is to change the fuel filter.

If, however, you regularly service the car and the fuel filter has been changed regularly, then chances are that the sensor is at fault, as is my own on my Peugeot HDi.

Cheers!

Geordie

Do all of these things, and make sure the outside of the sensor is clean and dry. If the engine compartment has been wet or steam cleaned the sensor will alarm until it's really dry again. A peugeot mechanic once told me that the sensor was perhaps too sensitive. NB check tat the fuel filler isn't letting rainwater into the tank.
The sensor screws into the lower side of the fuel filter mounted on the drivers side of the engine compartment. When you remove it the filter contents will drain out. You will have to use the hand priming pump on top of the filter to refill the system before attempting to start the engine

Drain your fuel filter container, or replace the filter and discard the diesel fuel from its container. Water is deposited there.
Or you can buy a fuel additive to disperse water from fuel at car accessory shops.
Draining the diesel fuel will mean bleeding the air from the fuel system, which for me has meant cranking the engine for a loong time until it fires continually. You would need a good battery.Do you have a battery charger ?
