My personal "Big Three", in alphabetical order, are the Clash, the Dead Kennedys, and the Sex Pistols. I like lots of punk besides that, but those are definitely the three punk bands I'm into far more than any other. No, I cannot define "real punker". It's a subjective judgment, for starters, and to be truthful I don't see much point in attempting to define it. What else should you do besides listening to punk? Well, it's not for me to say, but just as a suggestion: listen to other genres as well, travel, read, write, dabble in the visual or performing arts, go hiking, etc...

Personally, of the punk I listen to most of it is from the first wave of punk in the late 1970's. Bands I would recommend would be Richard Hell and the Voidoids, the Clash, Television, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, Wire and Patti Smith.
You can also check out bands that preceded the original punk movement like the Velvet Underground, the Stooges or MC5 and also hardcore bands like Bad Brains, Black Flag and, one of my favorite bands ever, the Minutemen.

Let's see. The Unseen, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Time Again, Static Thought, Rancid, Roger Miret and the Disasters, The Distillers, Social Distortion, The Casualties, Duane Peters and the Hunns, Cockney Rejects, The Exploited, X, Misfits, X-Ray Spex, Buzzcocks, Agnostic Front, Cheap Sex, Minor Threat, Black Flag, TSOL, Lower Class Brats, and many, many more. Take a look around your local indie record store (I prefer Amoeba in the Haight) -- you never know what you'll find. (:

You obviously havent heard OLD SCHOOL Green Day, because their music kicks ***. But if you're really insistant on getting into punk music, I would recommend the classics-- The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, etc.
