A person’s complexion is, however, a biological trait. The protein molecule known as melanin causes variation in tone. Melanocytes insert granules of melanin called melanosomes into the other skin cells of the human epidermis. The melanosomes in each recipient cell accumulate atop the cellular nucleus, where they protect the nuclear DNA from mutations caused by the sun's ionizing radiation. People whose ancestors lived for long periods in the regions of the globe near the Equator generally have more active melanocytes, and therefore larger quantities of melanin in their skins. This makes their skins very dark and protects them against high levels of exposure to the sun. The human body is always protecting itself from any harm which can be caused to it from the surroundings around it. The epidermis of the body, very sensitive and delicate, reacts immediately to any outside affect. In areas of the globe closer to the poles, people have far less need for protection from ionizing radiation, so their skin is usually lighter.

The only time I ever heard someone refer to another person as being yellow was a black person. They were not referring to a person of asian descent. They were speaking of a light skinned black person and said they were considered a high yellow color. by the way I am not pink. I am more like a tawny peachy color.

Some have a yellow undertone---generally the term is buff, chamois or honey for that. I have the same skin tone, a bit darker than a tea biscuit, but am Native American. For some reason, they say we're all red but we're not either! Strange things...

Ugh I hate when people label us "orientals"..what is that, jeez! I haven't seen any Chinese, Korean and Japanese that gave off ANY sort of yellowish color, not even a tinge, and hell I've been to China ! I'm pretty tan myself for someone who's Chinese, and yea, truth is my face gets a yellowish color when I become sick, but I'm sure every race has someone who changes a color due to their health/mood. People who call us yellow are idiots and not that creative with their racial slurs.

No idea assuming you mean "orientals" rather than asian as whole. (South east asians, like in Indian complete different from orientals. Likewise, for russians and other non-oriental asians.)

I guess we just say "their" skin is different and make up something. Lots of racial variation.

I guess it is because they aren't as pink as "white" people. I'm Asian and I'm the palest person in my gym class.
