I have a ornate box turtle and I've had her for 9 years. Thinking about getting another one for her. Do they get lonely? Would they fight?

In the wild, box turtles only come together to mate. Do not put a male with her because males can be persistant about mating and stress a female in confined quarters. If you mate her, she can remain fertile for several years and then you have to deal with a dozen or more baby turtles per year. Yes, and they could fight. If you have a large pen in your yard with lots of hiding places you could get another female and a male. Ratios are best at 2 or more males per female to lessen the mating pressure. What will you do with 12 or more baby turtles per year for many years?

they actually opt to be on my own, compared to mammals who bypass nuts without companionship. merely keep in innovations the thumb rule of 10 gallons consistent with inch length of shell, in the first 2 years you'll want to be able to in good structure a seventy 5 - one hundred gallon tank on your room. So imagine ahead, are you able to slot this variety of huge tank? otherwise there are different species of turtles who will stay small like maps or musk which want between a 30 - fifty 5 gallon tank. The turtles you spot in puppy shops are housed in tanks meant for merely exhibit, no longer perament housing.

Every pet gets lonely when it doesn't see its owner.
Its quite difficult to have 12 turtles per year because the eggs need sand and right temperature.

I've had my turtle for 10 years now and although she will come right to me, she doesn't seem to miss companionship. I now have 2 catfish living with her and she totally ignores them. I think as long as you spend a bit of time with them, keep them clean and fed, they are quite happy.

They don't really get lonely, but often enjoy a cagemate IF the pen is big enough and there are enough resources so they are not stressed or in competition.
